I ran into the same thing. Basically want to take advantage of the ignorant. 20% higher on everything, so it's a given that you bargain.
Oh yea, 50 bucks to have a weapon transferred there instead of the normal 25$. I also bought some beat to hell Black Hills that looked as if it had been through an AR-10 or variant. Someone there probably switched the new match red box stuff with blue, and shot the new non-reloaded red box stuff through their AR-10. I called Black Hills offering to send them samples, both live and some of the brass. They called back to let me know their rep. was at lunch. I called again, and haven't heard anything from them since. Piss poor on both ends. Kinda obvious when every piece of brass has gnarly ejection port dings etc., what dumbasses.

I really need to find the normal $25 transfer fee folks here in Jax! Please, help me! Everywhere I have gone to wants an arm and a leg... one of them said 10% of the price of the gun! I found one but he's somewhere in downtown no parking and odd hours and I think he said $38... any advice is highly appreciated... Thanks!

I Gun Gallery Sat. I was looking for a holster. I had been to two other shops already with no luck. They said oh yeah we have several that fit your gun come on in. They had two generic crap holsters that were way overpriced. I figured I would check out the gun prices I couldn't help but to laugh. Don't go to Bullseye either they are worse. I hear good things about Topgun but I haven't been there yet.

Gun Gallery finally cleaned up their range... (lights and paint) ...no longer a dungeon. Prices are stupid. I know a couple of the guys there - they're good guys. The owner/manger is a bit stoic and cold - not very personable. I've never bought anything there. McGowan firearms on Mayport Road (recently opened) charges $25 to do a transfer. In same plaza as Food Lion. The owner is a young guy (35'ish) and he is good to deal with. He has a small store front and and is trying to get off the ground.

GPI might be good and their rate might be low too, but parking is simply non-existent... it's run out of a storage unit! The very tiny space that can be referred to as "parking" is a narrow area of the sidewalk that he also shares with some holster guy who also has a shop out of another storage unit next door!

I highly recommend Lee & the gang at GPI, they are fantastic people & very good at what they do. Yes the parking is non existent, but you're going there for a specific purpose, not to shop. They've done work on multiple guns for me & its always 1st rate & good prices. If you need any gun work, the minimal parking won't bother you. They also do transfers for $25+$5.
And I agree with the comments about gun prices at Gun Gallery, but they are great guys & one once told me that they know they can't compete with the large volume dealers. I did buy an LCP there for $330 last year, which was as good as you could get at the time & better than the large volume store here was, but I had to wait 4 mos. I've haven't been to the range in 6 mos. or so, but they do need to brighten it up a bit in there cause it is a dungeon, not nearly as nice as at Bullseye's. |

Good transfer agent is Best Gun & Pawn 1505 Lane Ave S. for the Westsiders how about $20+$5.
Limited number of pistols lots of rifles and shotguns out of pawn occasionally a gem if Paul (the owner) doesn't keep it himself. |

I used to go to GG back in the day when Mitch (A1 Guns&Ammo) ran the place. The prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly and helpful, and you could get some useful info. Thier current manager has prices jacked way out of proportion. These guys, like a few others in town (Shooters and Bullseye included), are trying to capitalize on Obama madness and get sales. What they fail to realize is that they will not get "repeat" sales from these people. WE are the ones that keep them in business. WE are the ones who will come back for a gun that we just have to add to our collection. WE are the ones who do the transfers from GB and AA. WE are the ones looking for parts, ammo, and accessories. The person they are primarily selling to will buy ONE gun and ONE box of ammo and that is it. Then they will go to a gunshow when a new president is elected and sell it to one of us for a third of what he paid for it.
I have been doing business with Steve Soos at Middleburg Pawn for a number of years now. He is a great guy, who will treat you fairly, and is typically $100 less than the yahoos in Jax. He will special order you whatever he does not stock, and his transfers are normally $25+$5. I also know Paul Buffet over at Lane Pawn and Gun. Paul is another one who will treat you fairly and order anything you want. Jimmy Rohas out at the beach (The Doghouse) is another one. Well worth the drive to either one of them in my book to not have to deal with high prices, bad attitudes, amd poor service. Just ask around, just because your the biggest, or advertise the most, doesn't mean you are the best. |

I've compared GG to Shooters prices and Shooters beats right off the bat without even bargaining the price down..

Have you tried getting service? The last time I was in there, my friend was wanting to buy an M1A, but couldn't get anyone to at least acknowledge he was in need of help.

I agree that Shooters has decent prices. But decent prices do not do any good if the service sucks.

Shooters is always busy, that is why it seams like there service sucks..
St nicks guns off Blanding BLVD has some good prices and service, smaller shop so again if it's crowded its going to suck. Only go to Gun Gallery for there range, otherwise you will get fucked!

Being a former business owner (Military Surplus) I made sure that every customer was taken care of in a timely manner. That included acknowledging them when they arrived, and if busy, saying that I will be with them in a moment. Not treating them as though they were not standing there at all. Unfortunately, that is the mentality of too many businesses today. I completely understand that service will slow down when a store is busy, but that is why you (as a business owner) have more people working during those hours. Eddie at Shooters is not a newbie in the retail business. When he was in the other building and had a different crew working for him (Mitch, Rob, and Tommy) his customers were acknowledged when they walked in and taken care of. Now it is the "wham bam thank ya mam" mentality. I would definitely patronize his store again if the service were better. Lord knows I spent a lot of $$ there before, and I would again. I love a great deal.

Agreed.. No matter if your customer is buy a $1.00 item or a $5,000 item you need to treat both with respect... You never know when that customer that bought the $1.00 item will be back to buy that $5,000 item...
